"It's late, go to sleep," you bade me.
I looked out of the window and delved deep into the recesses of my mind. Looking for something. Anything. I came to see a ghost appear in the mirror; I've lost sight of myself. I sighed.
"I don't know who I am any longer. I am not who I want to be. I am a facade of what I wanted to become. It's hurting you, hurting me. I am sorry," he said.
Humanity was turning into itself. The world would continue.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned slowly to face you. You had tears running down your cheeks.
And between us, outside in the distance, the coming wave of destruction.
"It's okay babe, we're here now," you said softly into my ear.
And we kissed. As the last leaf fell from the last tree. Somewhere far away a city lay burning, nuclear fires from rooftops.
We fell upon the bed and held each other. Until the very last moment.
Existence one minute, infinity the next.
