Oblivion Hymn

Authored: (Many months)

GAZA

I write these words as an atheist and a human being
I've hoped for the best in humanity
But have been constantly disappointed
I thought we learnt from our past
Yet again I was humbled, to realise we have not.

I watch scenes play out in Gaza from the comforts of home
I see the death and carnage inflicted on innocents
I've struggled to comprehend the bloodstains and tears
I cannot imagine the smell of death
The shattered hopes and dreams of a people
A modern-day Genocide in the making.

Every day is oblivion for these people
From the comforts of my home, my heart breaks
My hope in humanity fades
And my belief in God's existence is dead and buried.

For how any God can stand by and watch and allow this carnage?
If I were a God, I would have intervened long ago
I am glad I left toxic religion and ideology behind me
I feel for the people in Gaza
I mourn for the dead and the children
This is Ethnic Cleansing.

This hate will end us
Not before more suffering and atrocities
I blame our politicians, our politics and our ideological biases
What hope do we have?
This is just another chapter of self-inflicted hellfire
A justification for why we don't belong in the Cosmic Order

And if God does exist, I rebuke you.
No God worthy should have allowed this Genocide.
We slide into Oblivion, one step at a time.
