Alone in the Silence

Authored: January 24, 2025

We've built large cities
Bristling with loudness and lights
The canvass was full of promise and hope
The mosaic, a patchwork of vespers and whispers
The city, a light in the encroaching darkness.

Yet, on every corner, on every street alley
A different story played out, of hopelessness, of fear
Of inequity, of struggle.
And loneliness and hope vanished.

These structures become boar constrictors
Blood-soaked chains along the neck and body
Empty wallets, empty bank accounts
The dream of Capitalism is a paroxysm
Of dreams lost. Of Dreams turned Nightmares.

We've built these societies
Based on wealth and success
Lost in the greed and the securement of debt
We dream of financial security
And lose us to achieve it.

When hope fades, when hopelessness takes hold
When struggle is all that one knows
When the last dollar in one's account is spent
The inviting city becomes a prison.

Our true God is Money.
This is the truth,
how do churches, mosques, synagogues get built
I have realised a fundamental truth
That God was visible around us always
It just found corporal form.

We've built large cities
In the quietness of early morning
In the stills before peak hour
In the moments before corporate life awakes.

The city, the society, we,
Alone in the Silence
Bear witness to the omnipotent God
It is in our credit and debit cards
In our wallets and purses
In our minds, on our media.
Bearing cadence. Holding our souls.

When you realise who and what God truly is
You comprehend how alone we are in the Silence
This Cadence.
