Kensington Ave. Philadelphia, PA. Camera 2

Authored: October 11, 2023

Rubbish litters the footpath
A rat comes out to forage
Surrounded by lost humans in a maze
On this curbside a littany of acts succumb to the night

An old man checking the rubbish for food
A young woman falling asleep on steps
A small crowd passing a needle amongst them
A drugged-out man starts to undress.

A woman lost in Nirvana chanting to unseen figures
A man in a wheelchair in a stupor
People emerging from tents, bedraggled
Two security guards laughing and taking pictures

A camera slowly pans this way and that
Capturing the scenes of a lost people
Unknown to these people, their lives being broadcast
As the poor, disadvantaged and scorned
People on a screen making comments
Judging them.

There is immense sadness and madness here
Somewhere we went wrong
A sign on a door to the Station reads;
"Faith-Hope-Charity"
But under darkness and a cold wind....

A futility in these scenes
We're on the edge of an abyss
And we're about to fall.
Binny always watches....
