The dream was all but a dream.
Idealistic tendencies of the young
Morph into the Conservative abominations of fear
A crippled form that bears rage upon the masses
Mad men with Narcissistic furor
Eyes filled with hatred and a longing for entropic ending.
We fled into the desert away from the city
We filled the car with our belongings and drove
Away from the rage and the impending doom
That first night under polluted skies
We watched the Stars as if they knew what was coming
Under a bonfire, we held hands, sheltering ourselves.
All was quiet in this desert all for but the animal life
We heard momentary thrumming of jet engines
And far off explosions
And we held each other closer
Closer and closer.
We may die in this desert
Surrounded by nature that knew humanity was ending
Under a simmering bonfire we caved into the moment
Losing ourselves in the bliss of connection
A yearning for tough under tangled bone and flesh
That night
But for a short period of time, all was brilliant.
The next morning, we woke up in each other's embrace
And everything had changed.
The sky was on fire
On the horizon danced a devilish tempest
Nuclear fallout was coming.
We knew that there'd be no more war
We knew there'd be no more animosity and hate
We knew the story was coming to an end
WE knew we'd die in the desert
But for a short time, all had been brilliant.
The fire was approaching and oh so radiant it swam
In a toxic maelstrom of heaven and earth
And the sound it emitted made us realise
The meaning of love and humanity
But it was all too late now.
We died in that desert
On a nondescript day
But for a short time, all was brilliant.
