Scenes from a Memory

Authored: August 7, 2022

That night, I tried to flee
You had tipped your drink over me
Then left from the Bar as everyone watched
I should have left you then and there
But I believed that I loved you.

Walking out alone from the Bar into a crisp night
I received a text from you with one word "Sorry"
And I came back to your place
And you cried and I held you
But I felt the first fears that we wouldn't last.

We fell into wild abandonment
And all was good for a while
Until I pissed you off again
And you vanished on me
And I came upon your images with another man.

But you told me that was a mistake
And I believed you
I took you back
And again, it happened
Until it broke me.

I should have fled
Because I let you crush my hopes
All I wanted was to have companionship
All I wanted was to love.

Years later, I am where I am at
In dreams, I am a different man
Who knew what could have been.

Memories are tragic reminders
Of what could've been.
