That morning we awoke after a night having fun
That morning we woke in each other's embrace
The sun came streaming in through paned windows
And for the merest of moments, you were angelic.
But the dream, I could not shake
It crippled me to my core
A phrase persisted in my mind
"The living will envy the dead".
You asked me why I was so quiet
And I turned to you, and we kissed
A tempest swept over me and us
It was as if we knew what was coming
We tried to allay fears with passion
For some time, this worked.
Flesh upon flesh
Tangled heaps of bone and impulses
And as we reached a crescendo, we heard it
Everything had changed.
We became molecules and atoms
Surging through the Inevitable
Where were you?
Where was I?
Once you are born, you can no longer hide
Everything is judged.
And we will fall back into the ocean
That was filled with stars
And you, oh you, baby, I will remember
Tangled flesh and bone
Tangled flesh and bone
Our hearts, our hearts beat within atoms.
