Degradation

Authored: February 9, 2022

The waters run polluted, the stink is caustic
Fish are dying, ecosystems collapsing
Birds take their easy pray and fall dead from toxins
Fish swim away sensing death, wanting survival.

We've built factories of death on riverbanks
We flush our Human pollution into natural habitats
In the name of Human progress and wealth
Never pausing to reflect that each degradation is leading us to perish.

We are purveyors of our own destruction
Bringing death to the lifeforms around us
Culling species, tearing down trees
Burning, destroying, collapsing

A gasping fish washed in polluted waves
Low oxygen levels
Choking, dying painful deaths
One day we will no longer be able to beath the air
We tainted.

This isn't progress; this isn't sentience
What intelligent species would destroy our own planet
What gain will we have?
Why would we will ourselves on the Galaxy.

Someday the Bees will be gone
The Amazon will be gone
Someday soon, ecosystem collapse will cause the final chain reaction
We will be those fish
We will be the endlings
Suffocating in our own tragedy.

So, sleep well whilst you can
Sleep in dreams before the spirits of the dead
Turn our dreams into nightmares.
