“Are you there?”

Authored: January 26, 2022

A message. Sent to the wrong person.
You respond and so it begins.
Hours later, you stop.
The randomness of communication
Questions asked, answers given
Forming opinions and thoughts
Is it real or just a dream
Are you there?

Winter ravages, as scenes of war on tv screens intensify
Summer burns, as the virus tears through populations.

"You are there?"

Getting to know each other.
The machines of War fight on
A glimpse of what can be
Night-time scenes of sirens and missiles
Tanks fire, burning hatreds cling on.

We talk about meeting in better times
That last message you could send
"I can't wait to have a drink with you...."

A scene in a garden. They meet.
Sharing drinks
But it's all a ruse
A dream.

The madness has taken hold
The last act of savagery
Nuclear weapons lay waste
And in some living room....your phone
Has a message come through
"Shall we meet in the Pavilion of what comes next?"

But your lifeless body without eyes
Cannot read ever again, or see again
This is how it ends.

But maybe....
