Where Were You? Where Was I?

Authored: April 24, 2021

Where were you?
Where was I?
When the silence befell us
And only the symphony of the past sang lonely bards
Hours became days and days became months
Our paths diverged, everything disentangled
Where were you when I was falling apart?

This world is slowly dying
And we cling to something or anything
That may save us from this endling
We think something is out there to save us
Where was I when you were falling apart?

When our bodies become one with the ground again
Atoms will unbind, molecules will untether
And what remained of us shall escape the atmosphere
And move between the void of the stars.

I wanted to believe in you, in us
That we'd save ourselves
A last burning hope that something would click for us
Where were we, when we were falling apart?
Monuments rise from a not-so-dead Earth
Monuments placed on the Moon and on Mars
That at some point will be visited by aliens
Or what comes next on Earth after us.

Paint you a mosaic, a human heart
Where were you? Where was I?
We just could not dispel the inner demons.
