(The) Distance Between (Where You Are and Where You Want to Be)

Authored: May 14, 2020

Have you wondered at some time in your life
Whether a decision made could have been different
If you had picked a different option?
There's a distance, I feel it
The fractures were just too much
Revisions could not be made, it was just too late
This distance, often ephemeral and quantifiable
This distance is a chasm, a vaulted cascade
A waterfall, a cliff, a ridge, a mountain.

I hope your dreams find you well
And I hope they turn out well for you
You will sleep better tonight
With one more for company.

The Distance between where you want to be and where you are
Be my Moonlit navigation
Be my lighthouse and guide me back to shore
Away from jagged rocks.

The Distance between where you are
And where I want to be
Close this gap, this abyss
And I hope my dreams find me well
Though they never turn out right.
