The Absence of Oceans (Prose)

It was here and now that I gave up my soul. Under a blistering hot sun. A heating planet. A vengeful sun oscillating above our heads. You were with me, now, here. I leaned in and we kissed. The sweetness of your lips, the taste of a beach. Beyond us, the oceans were receding, boiling away.

We looked at each other. Wordlessly, we caressed each others face. There was nothing left to be said. Soon the Earth would be uninhabitable. Our last moments here together.

Wicked clouds of water vapour raced through the atmosphere. The humidity rising.

"I am glad you are here with me" he said to her.

"This is the end, isn't it?"

They watched as more vapours rose from acidifying oceans.

"I love you."

The man thought how obscure the Earth would look with the absence of oceans....
