“Under the Blanket”

Authored: June 25, 2018

For those who are battling depression and anxiety

Sometimes it became too much, you see;
Or maybe you won't or can't see
Because you do not know the feelings of struggle
I have to deal with, even when I appear to be functioning
You won't ever know the amount of tears I shed
Or the times I'd not be able to move from my couch
Just staring at the floor or wall....

Some days are better than others;
Until I have to medicate myself
Knowing once I was happier and lived better than this
I struggle in silence,
My outer face may smile or laugh
My inner being is a maelstrom.

Many mornings I have to will myself out of bed
Staying under the blanket feels safe
The isolation is my protection
From demons that beset me.

Depression isn't something that is made up
It is damn real.
