Under an Atomic Sky

Authored: July 25, 2018

Sweet vespers of a better tomorrow
Were all we had as news broke of war across the world
Diplomacy had broken down, weapons of war unsheathed
It was as if the vile toxic Narcissists had destroyed the world
So that no breach of happiness and stability could ensue.

Under an atomic sky, night turned to a day
Fallout speared across the globe
People dying, animals dying, ecosystems faltering
A dieback was taking place, we had failed.

The last few humans struggled in those end days
Sickness and destitution took over
A dying man sat on the roof of his home
He drank what would be his last bottle of wine
In his hand was a picture of happier times
Tears flooded his cheeks.

A tale of woe at this the final act of humanity
Under an atomic sky, we understood the failures
If only....
If only there was more time....
