I held you tightly to me, in this the final moments
I closed my eyes as I hugged you
Took in your fragrance and scent, held you close
I could not bear to be away from you.
We heard the rush of wind
Followed by the roar of water
You whimpered on my shoulder
As we held each other tighter
"I Love you" I whispered against your ear
Covered by beautiful auburn hair.
In this final moment, before tragedy
I knew what Love really was
Images flew through my mind
Of a long and fruitful life
With you.
But the rush of water and wind tugged at us
And in that final moment, I kissed you
Before we were taken from this world....
This, the final act....
