Crestfallen is this World: Under the Aphotic Veil

Authored: July 6, 2018

There came a time when he forgot the names;
The names of birds, of types of trees and of clouds;
Running in torn clothing and shoes almost fallen apart
A large stick in his hand
Through an overgrown park
He could hear the hungry cries and howls behind him
He dared not look back....

This world had cried acid tears
Crestfallen; rose so far only to fall so hard
The ground was sodden with layers of blood
It was death now, all around, and dying
The world is crestfallen, in sorrow's provenance.

The man came to a clearing and he looked up
Expecting nothing, for there was no blue sky
A veil had drenched the world, the acid would fall again
And again, and again....
Behind him the noise increased
He trod on addled ground.

This was the final age of humanity,
Slowly unto extinction, one by one
This was the time when one of the last men of Earth
Had forgotten all that had made him great
He would survive for a bit longer
Upon this crestfallen world
Under the constricting aphotic veil.
