Thus Passes a Lifetime

Authored: January 24, 2018

We watched the oceans recede
As the days got hotter
And the nights crawled with flesh eating creatures
The sun rose high in a pale blue sky
Everyday animal and plant life died
Humanity was slow to respond, as they always had been.

A dying whim from oceans that lied
Remember looking at forests when they were healthy
The beauty, the grandiosity of it all
Now they were dying just as the oceans were receding
Man battled man for the new lands uncovered
And found new mysteries that were now laid bare
For all to see.

The world was wracked by powerful seismic events
As the weight of the world heaved from strain
The oceans were disappearing beneath the surface
Into vast chambers deep beneath the crust.

Man was dying by a combination of its own hand
And the changing of a planet trying to protect itself
The blue green azure was slowly changing
Thus passes a lifetime
That of the human race
What will become of us?

After the passing of the last human
Will the world rebuild itself?
Will evolution take its promise to new heights?
Will the skies be silent unheard of from Human Gods?
Broken over the surface will be remembrance
Ancient human cities, structures...lost to cosmic time.

We watched the oceans recede
A dying whim from oceans that lied.
