Memories Are All We Have Left

Authored: April 12, 2018

We spoke of a time of an age that no longer existed
We remembered the dead and we knew
As long as we remembered.
They can never truly die.

Memories are made as embers and catalysts
In times of passion and in times of degradation
As we spoke, we looked up at the dusk's sky
And watched a flock of birds fly away.

Memories are all we have left
Fleeting glimpses of days gone by
A smile, a touch, a kind word, a kiss
All memories
As long as we remembered.
They can never truly die.

But the memory of your face
Blurs because I am not remembering
Who were you? That you faded from my vision?
Were you a lesson, that I needed to take in?
Mayhaps, that was what it was....

Memories are all we have left
We remembered what we wanted to remember
And forgot what we didn't want to remember
We became part of that flock of birds
Flying away.
