It was a story lost in the cosmic timeline
Crumbling monuments still stood
As the world around the monuments recuperated
And evolution began its ongoing sequence of change.
And we danced under tree branches a hundred years old
When we painted the sky with hope and love
Before it all changed
I saw into your eyes and found a billion of stars
Underneath those stars a lone figure sat in a canoe
Paddling slowly
Darkness around him until the stars shone brighter.
I want to tell you the story of a lost people
Who had almost destroyed their home world
The last human paddled to the lit shoreline
And there was this house near the shore
A light blossomed from the upper deck, the bedroom.
And we danced under leaves alive even a hundred years old
When we painted the sky with hope that love would win out
The last human entered the house and climbed the stairs
Entering the bedroom that only had unmade bed
He climbed in and the light went out
He fell asleep, the last sleep any human would make
Before it all changed.
I saw into your eyes and found that lake
Underneath the shining stars
The fog rose from the water obscuring
Silence, not even the wind made noise.
Time moved forward and it all changed....
Someday when the last monument stands
This world shall have visitors again
And remember the homo sapiens that lived on this planet.
