“There is Still Time, Brother”

Authored: August 11, 2017

It's not the end of the world
It's only the end of us
The world will go on just the same
Only we shan't be in it.

She lived in the dream world of unreality
Or else she would not admit reality
He did not know
In any case, he loved her as she was.

All those cities, all those fields and farms
with nobody, and nothing left alive
Just nothing there, I simply can't take it in.

The trouble with you is you want a simple answer.
There isn't any.
The war started when people accepted the idiotic principle that peace could be maintained -
by arranging to defend themselves with weapons they couldn't possibly use
- without committing suicide.

Everybody had an atomic bomb, and counter-bombs, and counter-counter bombs
The devices outgrew us; we couldn't control them.
I know, I helped build them
Somewhere, some poor bloke probably looked at a radar screen and thought he saw something
He knew that if he hesitated for a second that his own country would be wiped off the map
So, he pushed a button and the world went crazy.

There is still time brother....
Before the lights go out
And the irradiated clouds burn the ground with acid rain
And the screams of innocence taint the air.
