Silent Tears Swell to Form Rivers in the Alleyways of Cities

Authored: August 22, 2017

We work, we toil, we scrounge to survive
Dreams are that much harder to reach
When the cost of living rises each year
So, people struggle, they make do
While the richer get richer and the politicians play games
Politicians say, "we feel your pain"
What a laugh, if they did, the system would not be as it is.

The skylines of worldwide cities
The same stories play out
The working poor, those on welfare
The homeless shivering in ragged clothing
If you are quiet, you could hear it
Rivulets that have formed.

Single parents who have to sacrifice
to make ends meat
Working 2 or 3 jobs to make sure their kids don't suffer
Providing meals for their children as they go hungry.

Women who sell their bodies at night
Making money to just provide and survive
As young girls, I bet this was not their dream
But to make ends meet, to survive in a world of money
You will sacrifice and do things sometimes
Just to get by.

The homeless in these cities
Who have fell through the cracks
Politicians say welfare cheats
But many of them get no income
They beg on street corners
As we who are a bit more fortunate walk on by
But we have that uneasy feeling
That that could be us....

Tears of regret, of silent pain and apathy
Swell into rivers in these alleyways.

Is this the grand dream of living?
When many live at pubs and in clubs
Gamble their money on pokeys
Bet on races....
Or drink to oblivion or take drugs just to forget
For a mere second.

Silent Tears Swell to form rivers in the alleyways
The same story of tainted dreams
We work, we scrounge to survive
But is this living?
When all we have are far-fetched dreams
We will never achieve.
Depression sets in, manic in nature
As we watch our taxpayer monies go into wars
and the pockets of politicians and interest groups
Our tears fall silently
And fall into alleyways of our cities
Like drumbeats of the sullen dreamers....
