In this timelessness that descends on me
Everything is explorable
To be expanded upon, investigated and learnt from
There are lessons to be learnt from the past
We have become machines, negating our humanity
Cogs in a bigger machine
That takes away our souls from our bodies
We lash out at each other
Hurt each other on a whim
We have loved and we have lusted
We have hurt and we have cried
Yet on that Monday morning
We trudge into our workplace
We become slaves for another work week.
We have tried to reach ascension
We want something to change and save us from our
Dreary and benign schedules
We go to school, learn a trade
Attend universities, get into debt
Meet someone, get married and have children
We slide into the system we once wanted to change
Lost as a number in an expanding web of connecting cogs
We are locked in, and so we lash out
And have our vices
The system is set up to provide these vices
So, we can spend more money and lose more money.
In this retrograde orbit, we move against our spirit
Instead of beauty we are materialistic
A new house, a new car, a new phone
We need it, we want it
Or so we are told.
Mass media is our messenger and our conscriptor
We have become addicted to our phones
Our social media
We are rats stuck in a maze, going around and around
We think we are going forward, but progress very little
Around us we watch the stock markets rise and fall
Wealth increases but does not trickle down
We vote for the same old parties and policies.
We are cogs, we have been beaten down
Drugged and stupefied.
Yesterday was a dream
Today is a nightmare
Tomorrow is left unwritten.
