It has been many years since the land had been submerged
The children on the great rafts, knew nothing else
But the wide expenses of water on a landless world.
It had been many months since the time
That the last waves had washed over the highest point.
Humanity was evolving in this time.
The body was changing, evolving
More adept in swimming the great swells of an angry ocean
The moon was growing larger each night
As it began its slow intractable decline towards Earth
The pull of the tides created great waves.
And it was on a day that the last human, an old frail woman
The last woman who knew of land
Breathed her last gasp of air
And as the light of life escaped her
She remembered great big cities
Continents, animals, birds, a different life.
The rafts came together in a conglomeration
Like a great kite, they came to remember
And say a final farewell of the woman from the former age
The leaders of the rafts took time to create a new smaller raft
That when finished they put the dead woman on
Floating her away, a man lit a torch
Firing it in a bow and arrow towards the small raft
It only took once
And the body on the raft lit up.
They watched as the flames consumed her
Fire on blue water
Under a cloudless sky.
Around the burning raft the waters turned red
And bubbled and frothed
For within her body was a capsule that interacted
With the fire.
A drop of blood in the blue waters
Then two, then more and more
The people on the rafts knew something was changing.
Deep down towards a new surface lay the ancient city
Of Paris
Ruined skyscrapers, an age gone by
The deep blue was punctuated by lights
One by one coming on in buildings....
And the ground began to shake....
