Into the hazy horizon I saw you leave me
Smoke blackened the horizon
I felt your touch on my cheeks
I still remembered your fingers trace my jawline
I stayed mute and watched you trudge away
You were leaving for your own uncertain future
Separate from mine.
I closed my eyes and remembered those lingering touches
Like electricity across my skin
Flesh against flesh
We kissed before we separated, hunger evident
But I bade you farewell.
I saw the tears on your cheeks
Mirroring my own
The dust is a mirage of our dreams
I reach out to you
But you are gone
The haze has taken your form
I no longer see you in the distance.
I fall to my knees and scream
Nobody hears me but the wind and the smokey haze
I remember your lips against mine
The taste of red wine and lip gloss
I remember looking into your eyes
Losing myself in you.
Now, I am alone
Alone with memories
I grip dirt in my hand
Wanting you to return to me
But I loosen my grip
The dirt falls away into the wind.
You are not of this Earth.
You will be of my dreams
The haze is resolute, and our parting was such
My tears dry and I stand
Uncertain I turn and walk towards that uncertain future
Ahead of me.
