Untitled Poem

Authored: January 21, 2017

In the darkness
It is I and the darkness together
I light a match and suddenly I see
I watch the match burn
The flame alive
Burning matter, changing forms
I am seeing a form of transcendence take place.

With my eyes.
I see you
I watch you as you appear as if you know what you are doing
But you are as lost as I am
You are hurt; your wing broken
So, I take you to a waiting car
Watching you go, I saw you look at me
As the car started to move away
I turned to walk back up the steps
Across the waters I see Dawn begin.

My past: those I have met and lost from my life.
I wonder about you and the reasons we met
And I wonder why again you left my life
Is there randomness or a pattern?
Each person has left an indent in my soul
Like leaves on the surface of the water
Between the leaves, I see the stars shine brightly.

This mortal coil, a repose.
With my heart I remember
Between the stars in the sky and the leaves on the water's surface
Another form of transcendence
I wonder if those who left my life
Wonder of me as I do of them perchance, per time?
I remember a moment of running my fingers
Through the velvet feel of the blackest hair
I could smell the intoxicating aroma
Will I touch another again?
Will these fingers slide against flesh again that is not mine?
As they slide along the surface of a leaf?
And trace the outlines of far-way stars.

In the light.
It is I and the Dawn together
I remember the flame
Changing forms
Across the surface of the water, I watch the sun rise
Will I?
