The Bones of a Dying World

Authored: January 30, 2017

It all faded away,
The promise of yesterdays
The laughter of children in a playground
The walking of pets in a park
A couple holding hands in joyful union
The world was theirs for the taking.

I watched the bird spread its wings
In the glorious hot afternoon
Behind it a summer storm was a brewin'
I sipped on my cold white chardonnay
I didn't see the shape obscure the sun so ever briefly.

The universe has no comprehension of human time
The Earth is as is
But we lay in rigor and some of us still are in the process
Of Dying
Dawns and dusks continue
The stars watch without mercy or pity
On a world that is dying slowly.

I carried a picture of you
Beautiful, resplendent, amazing and glorious
I watched with eyes intoxicated
As you took form and shape
A thundercloud
Lightning flashing.

The White House, The Kremlin, The Hague
They all lay silent
Mecca, Rome, Lhasa and the Taj Mahal
They all are quiet and empty
Time will pass and they will fall
As the memories of Humanity are forgotten.

That thundercloud transformed into a nuclear head
Expanding and sweeping
Laying claim to human and animal life
Destroying
As missile silos unleash their death.

It no longer matters who was right, who was wrong
There is nobody left
Nothing replaces everything
Except for the Bones of a Dying Earth....

It all faded away.
