Words Matter

Authored: June 28, 2016

Words matter. Sometimes they matter more than actions.
You can't say they don't,
It was you who said, "I met my soulmate",
It was you who said repeatedly,
"I crave you; how could I want anyone else?"
"Even if we break up, I will not want anyone else"
It was you who said this,
I wasn't going to keep you at your word
There was a doubt, you see, a doubt of veracity.

Maybe you thought, that's something I wanted to hear
Perhaps you believed it or maybe not
Sweet nothings, empty platitudes.

So now some time passes, a short time,
And those words you breathlessly whisper into my ear
Were like the wind flickering flames on a candle
A gust here and there and suddenly the flame goes out.

Words matter, they mean something. They mean everything.
You can't say they don't.
You shouldn't make up the rules and change them
At a whim
It was you who said, "I now know love".
It was you who said "I will be there for you"
It was you. You who said this.

Maybe you said it because it was the 'right' thing to say,
I don't know. We are no longer in contact
But I love you, and I know it is over.
Words matter
Words matter more than actions.

You are now with another, and I wonder
Do you say empty sentences to him,
Do you whisper sweet nothings that mean shit all to him as well?

Words matter. Sometimes they matter more than actions
You can't say they don't.
I am like the tide, ebbing, flowing away....
I won't keep you to your word
Our shared dreams are sailing away, as we part ways.

I know this. Words matter. They matter.
