The End

Authored: July 5, 2016

When you look out into the depths of space,
The Stars look back at you,
The figure stares out of a viewing platform on the space station
Lost in the thoughts he has shared with a million people
Throughout the ages.

Since humankind had expanded through several star systems
They have found no alien beings alive on any planet
But what they had found were remnants of civilizations
It was as if Life once thrived and, in another instant, vanished.

The man stares into the heart of the Milky Way
Looks into the light of the spiral system before him
He is surrounded by humans, but he is alone
It is as if humanity is the sole life forms and yet the species
Were incomplete.

The man had seen those magnificent citadels and buildings
On Planets that once harboured life, but now were tombs
There were once many civilizations now there was one.

The man feels a hand take hold of his and he looks around
A woman takes hold of his hand and wordlessly they both stare out
When you look into the depths of space,
The Stars look back at you.

Humanity was the last of the advanced lifeforms in the Milky Way
Each species had made mistakes and perished
And so now had Humanity
Colonisation of Planets did not mean the continuity of a species
A few years back, the females of the human species began to become infertile
There were no answers and no cures
The numbers of humanity would and had slowly started to dwindle down.

That man and woman held hands, and she brings her head to his shoulder
There is an unspoken feeling there with that action
The stars look back and so does Cassiopeia.

Voyager has made it to the center of the Milky Way
In the Year 3013, now mechanically defunct
It approaches the center and the axis of six brilliant suns
An unknown force takes hold of humankind's explorer
Of eons ago.

Landing on a platform, the central computer powers up
And that ancient message begins to play, one last time.
The end is a new beginning
When you look into the depths of space
What do you see?
