Remnants

Long after humanity has fallen
New life takes hold upon the Earth
A new biosphere amongst the ruins of humanity
Memories purged from animals that once feared humans
A new hierarchy has taken hold
Mankind's Gods are silent
The bones of humanity are dust
There are ancient cities, bones of an ex civilisation
That bears testament
The scars of the Earth still show on the surface
Where nuclear bombs destroyed all life
But now, Life of some form reclaims what was once poison
In the sky the sun is slowly expanding
Coming to the end of its lifecycle
Where was your Gods to save humanity?
Silence beckons
Politics and religion fall by the wayside
Human creations
The new lifeforms that have sparking sentience
Have somehow learnt the lessons of a failed humanity
They bubble forth as a Hive
Expanding, building but in union with the Earth
Somehow within them, they sense that once
On Earth stood a mighty but ego-centric species
That had so much potential
Yet destroyed themselves
The human Gods are silent to the downfall of their creators
As if they never existed
Long after humanity has fallen
Sentience rears forth again on a new species
And long after humanity died an agonising death
Silver ships shoot into space
It shall not be humanity who colonises the Milky Way
It will be our Benefactors
With memories of those mushroom clouds
As the expanding sun grows and engulfs the Earth
The last remnant of Humanity is destroyed.
