I have seen the worst and the best in humanity
I have witnessed purity, and I have witnessed savagery
All before the stars above
I often imagine if an alien race were investigating our planet
What would they think of us?

Would we pass muster?
Or would we be written off as a species?

Where does this propensity of violence.
And the need to dominate stem from?
We are the only lifeform on this planet
To believe in Religion, in unseen gods
Where we even will kill for our beliefs
Our political systems are violent and shadowy
All the while we pollute and desecrate Earth.

I often imagine if the animal kingdom
Could judge us Humans
What would they judge us as?

Would we pass muster?
Or would we be written off as obsolete?

And in our inter-personal relationships
Love seems to come and go in quick successions
We seem to want to hurt each other more
To score ego points against each other
I'm right, your wrong and the like.

We are failing ourselves
We are failing our planet
All before the stars above.

Have we passed muster, so far?
No.
