I watched the tide come in and a long with-it thoughts
Drifting in with the waters into my mind
Fluid motions into a semblance of something real
We were destined for something greater than this
The constructs around us we have built walls.
From the Kuiper belt, the alien armada emerged
Unknown to us, Humans, they had found our signals
That we blasted off into Space and Time
And that moment of contact would be the antithesis.
On Earth, we had soaked our lands with blood
We have drilled for oil
We have cut down swaths of forests
We called it progress; it was a failure to comprehend.
As this tide rises, the fish return, and I watch their dance
They are creatures that we can learn so much from
The small fish are hives, staying together
And suddenly in my mind an image, a thought
Imagining this world no longer nations or with borders
Meeting the alien visitors as one, one being, one species
Meeting another as fellow beings of this universe.
In the flicker, our lives begin and are over
The cruelty of our age will teach our future generations
How futile we were
Just like the fish in the water, we humans,
We humans shall rise from the wars and the hell we have self-created
All life has purpose
We are not alone
There is a way forward.
But first we have to remember -
That we must emerge first from our hell
And that is when the work begins.
I watched the tide come in
The power of that moment
An emergence of transformation
Remembrance of what was and what will be.
