We walked that empty beach together alone.
Hand in hand we didn't need to talk for we were together
The warm wind at our backs, the tropical sun at our face
The scents of a tropical environment in our senses
On a clear and cloudless day
We walked down that beach near where the waves lapped at our feet
We saw life all around us
We were life.
We had no care but that we were together
So close and yet there was distance between us
We spoke not of our issue, but we spoke about the little things
Things that truly shouldn't have mattered
You clasped my hand tightly not wanting to ever let go
We walked and walked, slowly but steadily
Our destination was the rocky outcropping at the end of the beach.
You stopped me and turned to me and brought your lips upon mine
We kissed, the sweetness of coconut milk on your lips
An unspoken passion of want and need
And as we kissed the sea began to pull out
We kissed even deeper and more passionately
And we heard the rumbling as the ground shook
The paradise around us was crumbling.
We had walked that empty beach together alone
We had come to the end of the world
We embraced and turned to the sea and saw a dark shape on the horizon
Come closer and closer
I said to you "I love you, I will see you on the other side"
And you choked back tears and spoke.
"I love you, wait for me baby"
The shape came closer, and it was a wave...angry and large.
And it roared and roared its mighty scream
The land shook again
We walked that empty beach together alone
We had come to the end of the world
One last sentence was said as the wave crashed into us
"Love you Gaia forever".
